This by far the best rifle I own now. I wanted a bolt-action and I liked the compactness of a "Scout" type rifle. Not a huge fan of the scope forward concept, but that was easily rectified. I was also conflicted on whether to go with .308, but once I found out that the .223 Gunsite version was discontinued (a terrible Ruger business decision IMO) my options became more limited. I am kind of an old-school fit and finish kind of a guy when it comes to guns I own. I'm not a fan of plastic anything on a weapon. There are several Scout-type bolt-action rifles out on the market, but they are invariably plastic stocked. When I found this model Ruger Gunsite with walnut furniture... I scratched off all of the other contenders. It was more expensive to get the walnut, but I felt it was very worth the extra expense. It came with 2x 10 round magazines, which was a surprise. I was only expecting a single magazine. It fires beautifully out on the range. Most bolt actions are a little clunky when you first fire it and generally get smoother as you put rounds downrange, and the Gunsite was no different. It's gorgeous, very accurate, and very powerful weapon. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. In a world full of polymer, I will always chose the metal and wood aesthetic.

Great rifle . I was not disappointed at all . It's ( out of the box) dead on accurate with iron sights out to 200 yards , Feeds well , very handy and easy to maintain .

Great concept. If you want a good brush gun with Mauser reliability and decent accuracy this is it. Got a good muzzle break to reduce the muzzle blast. Make no mistake, this is not a plinking gun, after about 15 rounds your shoulder will start to feel it. One of the worst triggers I have ever encountered on a rifle. Ruger has great quality and reliability but terrible triggers. 100 dollars later that problem was solved. Do yourself a favor and pick up the model with an 18 inch barrel.
