Hornady makes some fine ammo for a variety of uses, including this 12 Gauge Varmint Express round. It comes in a 2-3/4" shell with 24 pellets of #4 buck shot fired at 1350 fps. It\\\'s an excellent round for ridding your property of coyotes. Featuring the Hornady Versatite wad, these loads don\\\'t require shotgun modification, or specialized chokes. The Versatite wad does the patterning, and usually patterns best with an Improved Cylinder or Modified choke. The Versatite wad strips CLEANLY from the pellets in flight without disrupting them - this keeps the pellets together in flight for a shorter shot string that delivers more collective energy on impact. By stripping cleanly, the wad doesn\\\'t disrupt the pellets in flight so we end up with a very uniform, tight pattern without the help of aftermarket chokes. Specially loaded to ensure proper functioning in semi-auto and pump shotguns.

Typical Hornady quality, which is excellent. These patterns out of and 18 or 20 inch cylinder bore, similar to patterns I get with Winchester and Remington ammo fired from a 28" full choke.

Bought these a while ago, just went out to fire a few of these to pattern them. I've been keeping these loaded in my Benelli M4 as first 4 rounds, followed by 00 buck and slugs towards the end of the tube. All of them have dead primers, I attempted firing 4 of these and no dice. Fired off different brands of birdshot, buckshot and slugs at the same session and no issues. Obviously not the gun, it's the ammo.

Buds has the best price on these shells that I can find. They pattern as well as Federal Flite Control in my 870s, recoil less than a 20 gauge with 3 Buck, and hit POA/POI, 2-3 inch group within 7 yards from an 18 in IC barrel with rifle sights.

I keep my home defense shotgun (Mossberg 930SPX) charged with these rounds. In close quarters situations I prefer #4 Buck over 00 any day. Although designed and marketed for 4-legged coyotes ... my tests reveal that these are the best for home defense against 2-legged coyotes as well. Highly recommended for either purpose.
