Love the look of this gun and the bigger brother the 509. So slide color is a little weird, and the material is very light like an airsoft gun slide. Yes, I am aware it’s actually made by umarex, licensed to FN. The grip feels substantial and heavy duty. Heavy duty rails inside the grip. The barrel sits in almost a full size barrel sleeve. So picture a smaller 22 barrel that sits inside a 9mm housing. I’m not sure if there is a functional aspect to this or it os just to give it a more substantial look similar to the 9mm where the barrel chamber locks up on the slide. It makes it feel more like its bigger brother. In comparison, my Taurus TX 22 has a small thin barrel with a side slide ejection. So I am guessing FN did this to preserve the tradition barrel/slide lock up look and feel. Action is SA only. The safety does engage and you can it single action from “cocked and locked” by dropping the safety. This gun needs a break in period before it begins to be reliable. My TX22 went 1000 rounds out of the box with zero malfunction using standard velocity 22 ammo. First shots with the 502 I used Aguila 22 super and had lots of Failures to feed, fire, and eject. I then bought some CCI Stingers to run through and have since switched back to the Aguila and it seems to be running much better. Last range session, I only had 1 failure to fire. I run a red dot on this, if you do as well, make sure you run something light, as the slide doesn’t like the added weight. I run a Sig Romeo zero which is polymer and about 0.4 ounces. The other option is a Swampfox Justice which is about 0.5 which I run on a Lakeland LLc slide on my TX22. I would recommend this gun, if you like the look of the 509, but want to plink 22 for cheap. Just know, it’s a 22, so there is definitely some metallurgical difference in the slide which are apparent. But this is also necessary for weight saving and proper function. Don’t throw a tv screen redot on it, it will mess up the function. Stick to smaller lighter optics.

First, it is a physically beautiful gun that was ordered and delivered promptly.Trying different types of ammunition, the only failure was the very first round shot, and I attribute that to user error or just breaking it in. We shot about 75 rounds, and that was the only failure to eject. The gun is very easy to shoot, and very accurate out of the box. I am a fan of .22's, so it was fun to try this model, and I was not disappointed. It is a tad heavier than I expected (not a negative...just an observation). When these models first came out, the cost was about $125 higher, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the price today.
