Ruger American Rimfire Target .22 LR 18 10+1 - Stainless/Silver, 18" Barrel, 10 Rounds, Wood, Black Laminate Stock

This one gorgeous rifle! Fit and finish are excellent. Bolt operated smoothly and magazine inserted and came out with no issues. Picatinny rail came installed from the factory. Service from Bud’s was excellent as usual.

I purchased a Ruger American 22 LR stainless steel 18" barrel new on 09/16/2019. It arrived at the FFL dealer on September 19, 2019 and I picked it up at the FFL on Friday September 20, 2019. The dealership was busy and I checked to see that the bolt would fit and the trigger work. Everything seemed OK. It did not occur to me to check the magazine release. However, after I got the rifle home I pushed the magazine catch release and unsuccessfully attempted to remove the clip from the rifle. I checked the owner's manual (pages 18 and 19 of the "Instruction Manual..." which shows "To unload the rifle and magazine when you are finished shooting" by "2. Remove the magazine." The magazine can be removed with a specific plastic auto repair tool (to prevent scratching the stock and bluing) to get the 10 shot clip out of the rifle. However, this is not practical or safe on a general use basis. The rifle is difficult to single load as a single shot. I contacted Ruger and they sent prepaid mailer to send the rifle back for inspection. The rifle is totally dysfunctional in "new" condition, however, I assumed Ruger will fix issue and gave it a "D" rating.
The concept behind this rifle is great, as the rifle has the same weight and balance as a big game rifle and other reviews showed it to be very accurate to 100 yards...I could practice shooting "off hand" at a local rifle range without all the "muzzle blast," recoil, and expense of a big game rifle. The is the second new rim fire Ruger American I have purchased and both had to be sent back to Ruger for repair. I have to wonder what their quality control is like.
