Hi Aaron and welcome. No Sir. The Mossberg 590 Shockwave is classified as a “Pistol Grip Firearm.” That is how it should be entered into your A&D Record and recorded on the 4473. It is neither a long-gun nor a handgun. Cheers and stay safe!
As a whole our 4+ million customer's know more about firearms than we do. If you have a general question about a product we highly recommend that you first try out our customer Q&A feature. More often than not you will receive multiple answers to your question in minutes.

Aaron, no sir, this is not considered a short barreled shotgun, because it is not classified as a shotgun. A shotgun must have a stock, since this has no stock, it is simply a 'firearm'. No tax stamp or registration required, it is legal in all but a few states. (CA and NY if my memory serves me correct).
Stay safe & have a great day!
