I am new to rifles and was curious about this rifle. The consensus I got was to get a 308 Winchester. Is this different from the plain 308 Winchester. Thank you for your help and time.

Drake, the 308 a great choice. the military designation is 7.62x51 and is a lower pressure round than the 308 Winchester. A rifle chambered in 308 will fire both 308 and 7.62 ammunition just fine. The concern would be a 7.62x51 chambered firearm firing the higher pressure 308 Winchester.
