  • Believe it or not, it is more dangerous to fire commercial .308 ammo in a rifle chambered for NATO 7.62x51 than the other way around. The reason is the spec'd for the .308 is 62,000 PSI were as the NATO round is spec'd for 50,000 CUP (approximately 58,000 PSI). NATO head space specs are slightly larger than the .308 and the .308 brass is thinner than the NATO round. Consequently the 308 cartridge will stretch more in a NATO chambered rifle. So, bottom line is it looks like you can safely shoot a NATA 7.62 in a rifle chambered for a .308.

  • Greg, this rifle is chambered in .308 although it can also safely fire 7.62x51 NATO ammunition as well.
