So on some of the other models it states .308(7.62×51) but this model states 7.62x51 I thought the rule was you can run 7.62 in a 308 but not the other way around so the answer I'm looking for is, is this .308 or is this 7.62x51

Some military chambers for 7.62x51 can run head space to 1.645 which will stretch a 308 win. case to the point that it may separate. Won't hurt you much, but not a good situation. Have the chamber checked and see if it is chambered short enough to run 308 safely. If so then you can shoot both. You can fire a 7.62 in it then black up the shoulder with a magic marker. Set your dial calipers to .400 and set them on the shoulder to leave a mark on both sides. Then measure the head 2 times to both marks and average your readings. If it measures 1.634-1.627 it is safe for 308.
