Hi Stephen, most revolvers mfg after 1992 are factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts. I would get this confirmed with Smith and Wesson at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-6:00PM Eastern Time. Example of a current 'Drilled and Tapped" S&W Model 29 Classic.

Yes they are. Smith and Wesson drills and taps at least it’s N frame revolvers. If you look carefully at the stock photo you can see the bottoms of the three holes used for mounting optics on the top strap.
