.308 is loaded a bit hotter and uses thinner brass than 7.62 nato so you should be fine. That being said, Mossberg rifles tend to have sticky bolts, and shooting steel case really isn't going to help with that.

Yes. the NATO can be fired from the .308, not the other way around though. And yes, steel cased ammo will fire but, you may possibly run into some feed/extraction issues. Hope that helps!

The 308 win and 7.62 nato are actually loaded to the same pressures and velocities. Both shoot a 150 grain bullet at 2750 so pressure must be virtually the same. The differences really lie in the system used to measure the pressure. The headspace is the real difference in the two cartridges. The nato round is safe to fire in the 308 chamber but the 308 may not be safe to fire in the nato chamber because if the chamber is cut at the max for headspace of the nato round the thinner brass of the 308 may cause it to split. Your rifle is safe to use with either ammo. The steel ammo can be very lightly oiled to help it extract reliably.
