  • Never owned a shotgun. Handled several at a local store including this model. How does youth models being lighter affect the recoil? I like the shorter barrel for HD. Held a pistol gripped other brand, didn't like the feel of it.

  • Lighter weight will mostly translate to more recoil Stuart. The absolute best and inexpensive method would be a recoil reduction pad like a "Limb Saver" or "Air Tech" reduce recoil by up to 70 % depending on model if you prefer a pump over a semi auto shotgun. https://limbsaver.com/collections/firearms-products/products/airtech-slip-on-recoil-pad

  • light weigh will increase recoil there are things you can do about the recoil. shoot lighter shells if you just need the shorter gun you can add weight both in the stock and in the magazine to help reduce the recoil With shotgun the fit of the gun has a lot of bearing on the "felt" recoil ( if the gun "fits" you, you will notice less recoil) if you can afford it a semi auto will have less recoil than a pump the TriStar 20204 Raptor Youth Semi-Auto 20 Ga 24" at $291 will have a lot less recoil with the same shells link budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/84244/TriStar+20204+Raptor+Youth+Semi-Auto+20+Ga+24+3+Synth also the proper mounting and stance will help a lot with felt recoil you want to bring the shotgun up to your cheek then go forward firmly into the stock with about 60% of your weight on your front leg (I do not tell people to pull the gun back into their shoulder because this causes most new shooter to lean back ) If you weight is forward the body will "rock" with recoil instead of fighting against it (like if you are leaning back)
